October 2024 - Message from the President

Dear Esteemed Members of the Traffic Club of Chicago,

Happy Halloween Week! As we step into November, there’s a collective sigh of relief as the national election cycle winds down. While many across the country are ready to leave one presidential race behind, we’re just gearing up for another right here at the Traffic Club of Chicago!

Our election for the 2025-2026 Board of Directors is now underway, and I want to thank everyone who submitted a nomination to join our Board of Directors. The deadline to submit your Board of Directors Nomination is October 31st, with ballots set to be distributed on November 8th. I encourage each of you to exercise your right to vote and join us as we announce the results at our Annual Holiday Gala on December 12th—a fitting culmination of this year’s efforts and accomplishments.

Recently, our club had the opportunity to give back to the community through our annual Community Service Event in partnership with Project C.U.R.E. This marks the fourth year in a row that we’ve come together for this important cause, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who dedicated their time and energy. Your contributions are a testament to the spirit of service that defines our organization. Working alongside Project C.U.R.E. allows us to make a meaningful impact in our community, and I look forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come.

Next up is one of our most valuable gatherings outside of the Annual Dinner and Golf Outing, the Transportation & Logistics Customer Forum on November 13th, hosted by Loyola University Chicago in the Schreiber Center. This flagship event serves as a platform for professionals to come together and address the pressing issues that shape our industry. Our speakers, moderators, and panelists represent a wide spectrum of industry expertise, ensuring that conversations span multiple perspectives—from domestic logistics and supply chain strategies to international shipping trends and technology-driven advancements.

This year, the forum will include focused discussions on topics such as adapting to the changing dynamics of supply chains, optimizing transportation networks, and leveraging new technologies to enhance efficiency and service. We believe this event provides unparalleled value, not only for gaining insights but also for forging stronger connections across our membership. The forum will wrap up with a networking happy hour hosted by MAKA Logistics, giving everyone a chance to share thoughts, build new relationships, and continue those critical conversations in a more informal setting. I highly encourage your participation in this event, as it stands as a cornerstone of our mission to facilitate education, networking, scholarship, and industry collaboration. We only have a few spots left for attendees and sponsors so register today!

Following the Transportation & Logistics Customer Forum, we have two final events to wrap up the year that embody both the member diversity and camaraderie of our club. On December 4th, the Young Professionals Ugly Holiday Sweater Happy Hour will offer a lively opportunity for members of all generations to gather, share stories, and celebrate the holiday spirit in a relaxed and playful setting. In collaboration with the Midwest Association of Rail Shippers (MARS) and Toys for Tots, this event continues to grow in popularity each year, serving as a fantastic reminder of how our club bridges generations and fosters an inclusive environment where everyone matters. If you have never been to Butch McGuire's this time of year, you’re missing out, so come join us at this legendary Chicago bar. You will not be disappointed.

Our closing event of the year, the Annual Holiday Gala on December 12th, promises to be a memorable evening of elegance and celebration. Last year’s gala at The Sky-Line Club was a remarkable success, thanks in no small part to the picturesque venue and the sense of camaraderie that filled the room. This year, we are delighted to partner with The Sky-Line Club once again, where we anticipate an even more extraordinary evening. The venue’s breathtaking views and exceptional service provide the perfect backdrop for reflecting on our achievements and recognizing the dedication of our members. I want to extend a special thank you to Noreen Ellis, our newly appointed Strategic Planning Committee Chairperson, for her efforts and connections in securing this premier venue for us. Noreen’s leadership and the strong relationships she has cultivated within the industry continue to be a tremendous asset to our club.

The Annual Holiday Gala will mark not only the end of a successful year, but also the conclusion of my term as your President. It has been a privilege and an honor to lead this incredible organization, and I am deeply grateful for the support, trust, and collaboration of each member. This year, I’ll be continuing a new tradition started by Past President Tracy Davis in 2023, as I pass the “Orb of Power” to our incoming President, Steve Blinn. Steve has already begun working with me on the transition, and I am confident that his leadership will guide the TCC towards even greater success. His vision and dedication make him an excellent choice, and I look forward to seeing the club flourish under his guidance.

As we prepare for our club’s election, let’s not forget we’re in good company with another little presidential election happening in the country! While our club’s election may not have the same fanfare, it’s no less important to our community’s future. Your vote helps shape the leadership that will continue guiding us toward new achievements and opportunities. So, make sure to cast your ballot and I humbly ask that you join us at the Holiday Gala for what I promise will be a much more enjoyable celebration than any campaign trail. *Note: You must be a TCC Member to vote for the 2025-2026 Board of Directors.* Not a member? Click here to sign up before November 8th to vote!

Sincerely,

Matt DiPilato
